HYPE Whale Moves $16 Million to Exchanges as Hyperliquid Strategies Adds $45.8 Million

HYPE market activity has drawn attention after blockchain tracker Lookonchain reported significant movements involving large holders and wallets linked to major Hyperliquid ecosystem participants. On September 28, one HYPE holder transferred 177,518 HYPE tokens worth approximately $16.08 million to OKX and Bybit, while a separate wallet linked by Lookonchain to Hypersphere Ventures sold 62,869 HYPE for around $5.78 million.

The movements have raised concerns about potential selling pressure, but the available on-chain data does not establish that the entire $21.86 million worth of HYPE was sold. The distinction between an exchange deposit and an executed sale is important when assessing whale activity.

According to Lookonchain, the 177,518 HYPE transfer came from a wallet identified as 0xc745 and was sent to centralized exchanges. Tokens transferred to exchanges can become readily available for trading, but the transaction itself does not prove that the holder sold the assets. Such transfers can also be related to custody arrangements, market making, collateral requirements or other trading strategies.

By contrast, the separate 62,869 HYPE transaction was reported as an actual sale by a wallet associated by Lookonchain with Hypersphere Ventures. The tracker estimated the value of the sale at approximately $5.78 million and reported a profit of roughly $2.13 million.

Together, the two transactions were valued at about $21.86 million based on the prices used in the reports. However, only the $5.78 million transaction is described as a completed sale. The $16.08 million movement should therefore be treated as an exchange deposit rather than confirmed selling activity.

HYPE Exchange Deposit Does Not Equal Confirmed Selling

The difference between an exchange transfer and a completed sale can have a major impact on how whale activity is interpreted.

When tokens move from a private wallet to an exchange, the transfer makes those tokens available for potential trading. However, blockchain observers generally cannot see what happens inside the exchange’s internal ledger. If the holder later sells the HYPE, the trade may occur entirely within the exchange’s order book and may not produce an easily identifiable on-chain transaction connecting the deposited tokens to a specific buyer.

For that reason, describing the entire $16.08 million transfer as a completed sale would go beyond the available evidence.

If all 177,518 HYPE eventually get sold, the amount combined with the separately reported 62,869 HYPE sale would equal 240,387 HYPE. However, if the deposited tokens are not sold, the confirmed sale amount from the reported activity remains 62,869 HYPE.

The distinction is particularly important for traders and analysts trying to determine whether large holders are aggressively reducing their positions or simply moving funds between wallets and exchanges.

Hyperliquid Strategies Bought $45.8 Million in HYPE

The whale activity came shortly after another major HYPE transaction. On September 25, a wallet linked by Lookonchain to Hyperliquid Strategies reportedly purchased 494,200 HYPE worth approximately $45.8 million over a period of 16 hours.

The purchase was attributed to wallet 0x6436. At the reported valuation, the acquisition was substantially larger than both the $16.08 million exchange deposit and the separate $5.78 million sale reported on September 28.

However, the transactions occurred on different dates, meaning they should not be treated as directly connected trades. Public blockchain data does not necessarily reveal the ultimate counterparty behind every transaction, and there is no evidence establishing that Hyperliquid Strategies directly purchased the tokens moved by the September 28 whale.

The September 25 purchase instead provides evidence of significant accumulation within the broader HYPE ecosystem while other large holders were moving or selling tokens.

Hyperliquid Strategies Held 33.2 Million HYPE

Corporate filings provide additional context for the treasury’s HYPE holdings.

In its September registration statement, Hyperliquid Strategies reported approximately 33.2 million HYPE held as of September 8. The company said the holdings included tokens contributed at the transaction closing as well as tokens acquired using proceeds from its approximately $299.9 million PIPE and other capital raises.

Approximately 25.1 million of those tokens were reportedly delegated to a linked validator, while another 8.1 million were delegated to Anchorage.

The reported 494,200 HYPE acquisition on September 25 represents approximately 1.49% of the 33.2 million HYPE balance disclosed for September 8. However, the September 8 figure is a historical snapshot and should not be interpreted as the company’s current holdings after subsequent transactions.

What the Whale Activity Means for HYPE

The recent transactions show that large HYPE holders remain active, but the available data does not support treating all exchange transfers as completed sales.

The clearest confirmed selling event is the 62,869 HYPE sale attributed by Lookonchain to a wallet linked to Hypersphere Ventures. The 177,518 HYPE movement to OKX and Bybit represents potential future supply that could enter the market, but its eventual destination cannot be determined from the deposit alone.

At the same time, the 494,200 HYPE acquisition linked to Hyperliquid Strategies demonstrates substantial buying activity within the same broader period.

As a result, traders watching HYPE should distinguish between confirmed sales, exchange deposits and treasury purchases rather than combining every large transaction into a single net-selling figure. Future exchange withdrawals, additional wallet movements and confirmed trading activity could provide a clearer picture of whether the September 28 deposit ultimately resulted in significant market selling.

For now, the on-chain data points to increased whale activity and potential supply pressure, while also showing substantial accumulation by a wallet linked to Hyperliquid Strategies.
