Ethereum (ETH) is entering October with the price consolidating around the $2,700 level as traders closely watch whether the cryptocurrency can break through the important $2,775–$2,800 resistance zone. After strong gains during August and September, Ethereum has entered a period of consolidation, with market participants now looking for the next major directional move.

According to CoinGecko data, Ethereum was trading around $2,693–$2,695 on October 4, showing a gain of roughly 0.7% over the previous 24 hours while remaining almost unchanged over the past seven days. ETH traded between approximately $2,678 and $2,697 during the latest 24-hour period, giving Ethereum a market capitalization of around $328 billion.

Ethereum Needs to Break $2,800 for a Potential Move Toward $3,000

Ethereum has already delivered a significant recovery during the previous two months. ETH gained approximately 32.6% in August, ending the month near $2,467. The cryptocurrency continued its upward movement in September, gaining another 8.8% and finishing the month close to $2,685.

The strongest part of the September rally came during the second half of the month. Ethereum climbed from around $2,398 on September 15 to approximately $2,775 by September 21. However, the cryptocurrency failed to maintain that level and eventually returned toward the $2,650–$2,700 range.

For October, the $2,775–$2,800 region has become the most important resistance area. A convincing daily or weekly breakout above $2,800 could strengthen the bullish structure and potentially open the way toward $2,900 and eventually $3,000.

Some technical projections also place a potential continuation target around $3,050 if Ethereum successfully breaks and holds above the resistance zone.

On the downside, the $2,400–$2,500 area remains an important support region. A deeper decline below approximately $2,560–$2,565 could weaken the current bullish setup and increase the risk of Ethereum returning toward lower support levels.

Ethereum Technical Indicators Show Mixed Momentum

Ethereum’s technical indicators are presenting a mixed picture as October begins.

The monthly Relative Strength Index (RSI) is around 51.53, above its moving average near 48.46. This suggests that momentum has improved and remains slightly bullish, although the RSI is still far below the 70 level generally associated with an overbought market.

The monthly MACD indicator remains weaker. The MACD line is around -98.3 compared with a signal line near -66.4, leaving the histogram around -31.9. Although the gap between the two lines has narrowed, a confirmed bullish crossover has not yet occurred.

This combination suggests that Ethereum has room to move higher, but traders may still need confirmation from price action before expecting another major rally.

Ethereum ETF Outflows Raise Questions About Institutional Demand

Ethereum’s U.S. spot ETF market has also become an important factor for the October outlook.

Earlier in September, institutional demand was strong. Arkham Intelligence reported that BlackRock’s Ethereum funds had acquired approximately $1.57 billion worth of ETH over a 20-day period. ETHA accounted for around $1.27 billion, while ETHB represented approximately $296.5 million.

However, the latest ETF data show that institutional demand has cooled.

Farside Investors recorded approximately $59.6 million in combined U.S. spot Ether ETF outflows on September 30, followed by $55.4 million on October 1 and another $17.3 million on October 2. Overall, the September 28–October 2 period resulted in roughly $118 million in net outflows.

This represents a notable change from the previous week, when Ethereum ETFs attracted approximately $689.8 million in net inflows.

The changing ETF flow picture means that institutional demand could become an important factor in determining whether ETH can break above $2,800 during October.

Glamsterdam Upgrade Provides Another Major Ethereum Catalyst

Ethereum also has an important network development ahead.

The Glamsterdam upgrade is scheduled to activate on the Sepolia testnet on October 6 at 13:53:36 UTC. The event represents an important testing milestone for Ethereum’s next major upgrade.

Glamsterdam combines changes from the Amsterdam execution-layer upgrade and Gloas consensus-layer upgrade. The upgrade includes features such as enshrined proposer-builder separation and block-level access lists, alongside gas-pricing changes designed to improve Ethereum’s execution and state management.

However, the Sepolia activation should not be confused with a mainnet launch. Ethereum’s mainnet activation date for Glamsterdam has not yet been finalized, although the current roadmap targets Q4 2026.

The successful testing of the upgrade could become another positive factor for Ethereum’s long-term narrative, particularly if developers maintain progress toward the mainnet deployment.

Ethereum Price Prediction for October

Ethereum’s October outlook currently depends heavily on whether buyers can reclaim the $2,800 area.

A bullish scenario would involve ETH breaking above $2,800 and successfully turning that level into support. In that case, Ethereum could target $2,900 followed by the psychologically important $3,000 level. A stronger continuation could potentially push ETH toward the $3,050–$3,100 region.

The neutral scenario would see Ethereum remain trapped between roughly $2,500 and $2,800 while traders wait for stronger catalysts, including ETF flows and progress on the Glamsterdam upgrade.

A bearish scenario could develop if ETH loses important support around $2,500 or breaks below the $2,400 region. Such a move would weaken the current recovery structure and could lead to increased selling pressure.

For now, Ethereum remains in a consolidation phase near $2,700. The $2,775–$2,800 resistance zone is the key level to watch, while $2,400–$2,500 remains the major downside support area. A decisive breakout could determine whether Ethereum begins another leg higher toward $3,000 during October.
